Yes this is real, this HAS happened, two of the fastest growing and most profitable startup companies ‘so far’, Pinterest and Instagram have been merged into one!
This was done one faithful weekend by two friends and developers Pek Pongpaet & Brandon Leonardo. This sounds pretty interesting right? Well the interesting part was actually that Pinstagram started off as a joke. Pek and Brandon were discussing how many startups are pitched on a regular basis to venture capitalist firms with strange “yet funny” phrases like “We’re an X for Y, like an AirBnB for dogs.” Pongpaet said in an interview with Mashable.
That’s when the duo realized a Pinterest for Instagram would be an extreme example of what there were talking about that day, and thus Pinstagram was created. The two built this site in just two days and threw it out there in an extreme beta version and in complete irony it took off pretty well. Turns out that there is only 1 needed void that both Pinterest and Instragram didn’t fill, that the idea of Pinstagram managed to take care of very well. Which is, to provide a desktop version of Instagram that has search functionality. Isn’t it crazy how it is always the smallest detail that can bring your tech company to a screeching halt, (the little search bar is normally that detail).
The question lingers though, is this a billion dollar mashup? Or just another interesting and useful tool we can have fun and play around with? What do you think?
